Four defendants were sentenced Tuesday in Wayne County Circuit Court.
31-year-old Jamar L. Young of Centralia man was sentenced to two years of conditional discharge in a misdemeanor theft case. Young was also sentenced to 90 days in the Wayne County Jail with day-for-day credit, but that jail sentence was stayed. He was also ordered to pay court costs. As part of his conditional discharge, Young is prohibited from violating any criminal law or consuming or possessing alcohol or illegal drugs.
A 20-year-old Fairfield man was sentenced after admitting to a probation violation. Aiden L. Buchanan admitted to violating his probation in case number 2026-DV-5, in which he had been convicted of Class A misdemeanor domestic battery. Buchanan was sentenced to two years of probation and 60 days in jail. He was also ordered to pay a $500 fine plus court costs and assessments. Other conditions include undergoing an alcohol and drug assessment if required by probation and completing a GED if applicable. Buchanan is also prohibited from having contact with individuals named in the court order.
A 57-year-old Geff man pled guilty to misdemeanor DUI. Ronald S. Reynolds was sentenced to 24 months of probation and 90 days in the Wayne County Jail with no day-for-day credit. He was also ordered to pay court costs and complete an alcohol evaluation and recommended counseling, and attend a Victim Impact Panel. According to the plea agreement, the Wayne County case represented Reynolds’ fifth DUI arrest. Court records list a 1996 Richland County DUI that resulted in court supervision, a 1999 Jasper County DUI that was dismissed as part of a plea agreement on a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge, and DUI convictions in Crawford County in 2001 and Clay County in 2009. The Clay County case was filed as a Class 4 felony aggravated DUI.
A 68-year-old Franklin, Tennessee man was sentenced after being found guilty of a Class A misdemeanor DUI. James R. Russell was sentenced to 24 months of conditional discharge and five days in the Wayne County Jail with no day-for-day credit. Court records state Russell was stopped on Interstate 64 while traveling 91 miles per hour in a 70-mile-per-hour zone. According to the filing, officers observed signs of impairment, a preliminary breath test registered .137 and a later intoxilizer test produced a reading of .121. Russell was ordered to pay court costs and undergo an alcohol and drug evaluation, complete recommended counseling and attend a Victim Impact Panel.
