Fairfield Community High School Student Council is kicking off its annual Penny Wars competition today (Friday) with students and community members encouraged to join in the fundraising effort.
Freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors will compete to see which class can earn the most points through donations. The Fairfield Rotary Club is also joining the competition this year.
Pennies and coins placed in a class’s container count as positive points, while bills can be placed in another class’s container to count as negative points against that class.
Community members can support their favorite class by making donations at Penny Wars containers located at People’s National Bank, Fairfield National Bank, The Fairfield Banking Company and Fusion.
The competition continues through 3 p.m. Wednesday, September 30.
A portion of the money raised will be donated to charitable organizations at the local, district and state levels.
Organizers say Penny Wars provides a fun competition among the classes while giving FCHS students and the Fairfield community an opportunity to support organizations in need.
