Jefferson County and the City of Mt. Vernon are moving to a new emergency notification system, and residents currently receiving Nixle alerts will need to register for the new service.
The county and city emergency management agencies announced Thursday that Nixle service will end September 30. Current subscribers will not automatically be transferred to the new Regroup system.
Regroup will provide notifications for severe weather, missing persons, public safety threats, major road closures and utility disruptions.
Residents can receive alerts through text messages, phone calls, email or the Regroup mobile app. Subscribers will also be able to select which types of notifications they want and how they receive them.
