Several defendants were sentenced Thursday in Wayne County Circuit Court in cases involving theft, burglary, aggravated battery, methamphetamine possession and other charges.
33-year-old Cody L. Hicks of Mt. Vernon pleaded guilty to an amended charge of Class 3 felony theft. Hicks was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to pay a $75 fine, $50 to the local anti-crime program and $1,700 in restitution to the victim. As conditions of probation, Hicks was ordered to complete anger management as required by probation and have no contact with the victim. He received credit for one day previously served in jail.
28-year-old Ethan R. Issom of Harrisburg pleaded guilty to domestic battery. Issom was sentenced to two years of probation and 120 days in the Wayne County Jail. According to the sentencing order, he received credit for 203 days already served. Issom was also ordered to pay fines and court costs, complete anger management and have no contact with the victim. Count I was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
An 18-year-old Salem man was sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to Class 2 felony burglary. Alexander L. Brown-Bergman will also serve six months of mandatory supervised release following his prison sentence. Brown-Bergman received credit for time previously served in custody. His five-year sentence was ordered to run consecutively to a sentence imposed in a Marion County case.
18-year-old Justin R. Wilson of Fairfield was sentenced in two separate cases after pleading guilty to aggravated battery and DUI.
In the first case, Wilson pleaded guilty to Class 3 felony aggravated battery and was sentenced to two years of probation. He received credit for three days previously served in jail. Wilson was ordered to complete anger management as directed by probation, have no contact with the victim, submit to DNA testing and complete a course of study or vocational training at Southeastern Illinois College. He was also ordered to pay court costs and $50 to the local anti-crime program. One case was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
In a separate case, Wilson pleaded guilty to Class A misdemeanor DUI and was sentenced to two years of probation, to run concurrently with his aggravated battery sentence. Wilson was ordered to undergo an alcohol and drug assessment, complete any recommended counseling and participate in a Victim Impact Panel. He was also ordered to pay fines and court costs. Counts II through VI in the DUI case were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
38-year-old Kyle O. Hicks of Albion pleaded guilty to Class 3 felony possession of methamphetamine. Hicks was sentenced to four years of probation and 60 days in the Wayne County Jail, with credit for 10 days previously served. Court records also contain a supplemental order imposing an additional 90-day jail sentence, although that portion of the sentence was stayed until further order of the court. As conditions of probation, Hicks was ordered to participate in Veterans Justice Outreach and Veterans Administration health care programs as directed. He must also maintain employment of at least 30 hours per week when not incarcerated, submit to DNA testing and cooperate with directives and recommendations from the U.S. Veterans Administration and its contractors.
37-year-old Joshua R. Porter was sentenced following proceedings on a petition to revoke his probation in a 2022 retail theft case. The court sentenced Porter to 90 days of conditional discharge and ordered him to serve 14 days in the Wayne County Jail.
