One person is dead and two others were injured this (Tuesday) morning following a multi-vehicle crash involving a amish buggy in Wayne County.
The crash was reported at approximately 7:09 a.m. along County Highway 16, the extension of Route 161 west of Johnsonville, in the area of the 600 block of County Highway 16.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Wayne County Ambulance personnel and Cisne Fire Department responded to the scene. The Wayne County Coroner’s Office advises that one person was killed and two others were injured. The identities of those involved and the extent of the injuries have not yet been released. Reports indicate the two injured were airlifted from the scene by Air Evac to an Evansville hospital.
An accident reconstructionist with the Illinois State Police is assisting at the scene of the crash.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department said County Highway 16 is closed while emergency personnel investigate the accident and clear the scene. Motorists are being asked to avoid the area and use an alternate route until the roadway is reopened.
