A Xenia man has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after admitting to violating his probation.

Clay County State’s Attorney Phillip Givens announced that 26-year-old Jeffrey M. Wathan was sentenced Wednesday in Clay County Circuit Court.

Wathan was originally placed on 24 months of probation in February 2025 following a conviction for Aggravated Domestic Battery, a Class 2 felony. As part of his probation, Wathan was required to complete substance abuse counseling.

According to Givens, Wathan admitted to violating that condition of his probation.

Wathan was sentenced to four years and six months in prison, of which he will be required to serve 85%. The prison term will be followed by four years of mandatory supervised release.

The original case was investigated by the Flora Police Department, while the probation violation was handled by the Clay County Probation Office.
