Illinois State Police Troop 9 Commander, Captain Bruce Waggoner, has announced the results of Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement, or ACE, patrols conducted in Hamilton, Lawrence, Marion, Richland, Effingham and Cumberland counties during the months of August and September.  The patrols focused on preventing, detecting and taking enforcement action in response to violations associated with impaired driving and illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol or drugs.

During the detail, enforcement activity included six citations for DUI, five other alcohol and drug citations, six Occupant Restraint Offenses, and 19 Registration Offenses.  There were also seven Driver’s License Offenses, four Insurance Violations, and 72 speeding tickets issued.  Troopers issued a total of 43 citations and arrests and wrote 180 total written warnings.

State police say alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in over 47 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois, with one fatality every 39 minutes in the United States.  The ACE project is funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation
