HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS TENNIS:
The Lady Mules Tennis team faced off with the Carterville Lady Tigers on Wednesday at the Lakeside Tennis Courts and fell by a score of 7-2. The Lady Mules earned Doubles victories from the team of Marlee Richards and Kenry Hutchcraft and the team of Carly Fleener and Wren Braddock.

SIJHSAA CLASS S CROSS COUNTRY REGIONAL AT SUMMERSVILLE:
The SIJHSAA Class S Regionals were held on Wednesday at the Mt. Vernon Airport with teams from Jasper, New Hope, Geff, Cisne, and Wayne City all participating. Several local runners qualified for the State Meet at DuQuoin on Saturday, October 17th, with the Cisne Boys team qualifying as a team after finishing in 1st Place overall.

Individual Boys State Qualifiers were: Jayson Rawls-New Hope-1st, Corbin Hutchcraft-Cisne-2nd, Rigger Legg-Wayne City-4th, Tucker Brooker-Cisne-6th, Lennox Lewis-Cisne-7th, Hunter Denny-Geff-10th, JD Belmont-Cisne-29th, and Jayce Lee-Cisne-30th



Individual Girls State Qualifiers were: Bristol Weber-New Hope-4th and Pyper Lewis-Cisne-5th


SIJHSAA CLASS M CROSS COUNTRY REGIONAL AT SALEM:
The SIJHSAA Class M Regionals were held on Wednesday at Salem with Fairfield’s Center Street School participating. The Colts had two runners qualify for the State Meet at DuQuoin on Saturday, October 17th. Paisley Ewing finished 11th and Addison Lawyer finished 15th.

The Ravens acquired Cam Jurgens from the Eagles on Wednesday in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round pick and a second-rounder in ’28. The center will fill a void left by Tyler Linderbaum, who signed with Vegas during the offseason. Jurgens was struggling for Philly after the team moved him to guard.

(Eagan, MN) — The Minnesota Vikings are signing wide receiver Odell Beckham Junior to their practice squad. The team announced the move Wednesday along with other roster moves. Beckham was most recently with the New York Giants and was released by the team after appearing in three games and receiving just one target. The move comes as Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson continues working through an ankle injury. Beckham last had significant production in the 2023 season with the Baltimore Ravens, catching 35 passes for 565-yards and three touchdowns.

(Pittsburgh, PA) — Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers doesn’t think his recent outburst is a problem. Rodgers said last week’s expletive-filled interaction with head coach Mike McCarthy is more of a positive than a negative. Both Rodgers and McCarthy have discussed the incident, which has been ironed out. Pittsburgh is 2-and-2 and hosts the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at Acrisure Stadium.

(Washington D.C.) — The Capitals captured a 5-3 victory over the Penguins from DC in the final home opener for Alex Ovechkin. Anthony Beauvillier opened the scoring with his first goal of the season. Tom Wilson also found the back of the net to go along with a couple of assists. Washington now has four points after winning two of its first three games. Bryan Rust, Tommy Novak and Nick Robertson scored for Pittsburgh, which has dropped back to back games.

(Yokohama, Japan) — Xander Schauffele is looking to defend his title at the Baycurrent Classic. Schauffele won last year’s tournament after finishing atop the leaderboard by one stroke at 19 under par. The 32-year-old will be alongside Jacob Bridgeman and Collin Morikawa for the first and second round. Beau Hossler, Pierceson Coody and Ren Yonezawa will be among the first group of players teeing off at Yokohama Country Club in Japan.
