An Albion Police Department squad car was destroyed by fire this (Monday) morning outside the Edwards County Sheriff’s Office.
Albion Assistant Police Chief and Fire Chief Scott Meserole had parked the Ford squad car at the sheriff’s office as part of his normal routine and had gone inside the building when a passerby alerted officials to a vehicle fire.
When Meserole went outside to investigate, he discovered it was his squad car that was burning.
The vehicle had fewer than 15,000 miles on it and was considered a total loss.
The Albion Fire Department responded quickly and was able to contain the fire before it damaged the nearby courthouse or other vehicles.
No injuries were reported.
