AREA SPORTS RESULTS FROM FRIDAY:
HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL:
It was Senior Night at the Trainyard as the Fairfield Mules faced off with the Hamilton County Foxes in the regular season finale. The Mules finished the season 7-2 after trouncing the Foxes 42-14.
The Mules opened the scoring with a 28-yard Touchdown pass from Caden Best to Austin Grieve. Hamilton County answered back with a 7-yard Touchdown run. Fairfield responded early in the 2nd Quarter with a Michael Barner 14-yard Touchdown run. The Mules continued the 2nd Quarter scoring with a 47-yard Touchdown run by Grant Otey and a 7-yard Touchdown run by Cooper Berg, going into halftime with a 28-6 lead.
Even though the Foxes received the ball after half, it was short-lived as Grant Otey intercepted the ball on Hamilton County’s 1st possession. Barner added his 2nd Touchdown shortly after with an 11-yard run. Cooper Berg capped off the Mules scoring with his second Touchdown of the night, a 2-yard run. The Foxes did add one more score, but it was too little too late.
The Mules Offense was led by the Vaughan’s Tire Offensive Player of the Game, Michael Barner who had 12 rushes for 137 yards and 2 Touchdowns. Grant Otey added 9 rushes for 81 yards and a Touchdown and Cooper Berg had 13 rushes for 64 yards and 2 Touchdowns.
The Mules Defense was led by the Potts Family Pharmacy Defensive Player of the Game, Aiden King who had 10 solo tackles, 5 assisted, and 1 sack. Clinton Odell also had 8 solo tackles and 6 assisted. Both Grant Otey and Breychan Kovacich each had an interception.
The Mules next opponent in the playoffs will be determined tonight during the IHSA Selection Show at 9:00 p.m.
