Olney Central College is preparing to showcase a major campus improvement project with a public open house Tuesday, October 20.

The college will unveil approximately $2 million in renovations to its science laboratories on the third floor of Dr. Kent L. Wattleworth Hall.

The project represents the first major renovation of the building’s physics, chemistry and biology laboratories since the facility opened in 1974.

College officials say the summer-long project replaced outdated workspaces with modern laboratory facilities designed to improve student learning, research opportunities and safety.

The renovations also addressed longstanding infrastructure problems, including plumbing leaks and electrical issues.

Among the improvements are advanced safety equipment, two chemical fume hoods and a dedicated space for the college’s anatomy cadaver.

Olney Central College President Chris Simpson says the upgraded facilities will provide students with expanded opportunities for undergraduate research comparable to those available at larger universities.

The OCC Foundation also played a significant role in supporting the project, contributing thousands of dollars toward new laboratory equipment, including a $10,000 water purification system.

College officials say the improvements will benefit students pursuing degrees and careers in science, healthcare and related fields.

The public open house will be held Tuesday from 4 until 6 p.m. inside Dr. Kent L. Wattleworth Hall on the Olney Central College campus.

Community members, alumni and prospective students are invited to attend and tour the newly renovated laboratories.
