A Wayne County judge has denied a request to reduce the prison sentence of a Fairfield woman convicted in connection with the hot car death of her 17-month-old son in July 2024. The motion to reconsider the sentence of 39-year-old Aydreian Hooper was denied during a hearing Thursday in Wayne County Circuit Court.

Hooper is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence following the death of her son, Aaruan, on July 14, 2024. The child died after being left unattended inside his mother’s Chevrolet Suburban during a period of extreme summer heat. Temperatures that day exceeded 90 degrees, and a heat advisory was in effect. Another child, two-year-old Gage Hooper Gonzales, also suffered serious and permanent injuries in the incident.

According to court information, Gage is now living under the supervision of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

During Thursday’s hearing, Hooper’s attorney argued that the 10-year sentence was excessive and violated the Illinois Constitution. The defense also maintained that probation combined with continued counseling would better serve the goal of rehabilitating Hooper and restoring her to productive citizenship. However, the judge rejected those arguments and denied the motion, leaving the original 10-year prison sentence in place. Hooper is currently incarcerated at Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln, Illinois.

According to prison records, she is not eligible for parole until May 4, 2029, with her projected parole discharge date listed as May 4, 2030.
