Four defendants appeared in Wayne County Circuit Court Thursday.
46-year-old Sean M. Dawkins of Clay City pleaded guilty to an amended Class 3 felony charge of unlawful possession of methamphetamine. Dawkins was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to serve 180 days in jail, with the jail sentence stayed. He was given credit for three days previously served. As part of his sentence, Dawkins was ordered to pay fines and court costs and pay $2,112.57 in restitution to Sierra Bravo Contractors, LLC. He must also complete any treatment or programs required by the probation department, submit to drug testing, and comply with standard probation conditions. Under the plea agreement, another count in the case was dismissed, and a petition to revoke probation filed in a separate 2023 felony case was withdrawn. Dawkins is scheduled to return to court October 3, 2028, at 1 p.m. for a review hearing.
19-year-old James E. McCracken was placed on one year of court supervision on a Class A misdemeanor retail theft charge. He was ordered to pay $156.79 in restitution to Walmart, jointly with three other defendants involved in the case. McCracken is also prohibited from entering or having contact with the Walmart store in Fairfield during his supervision. He must pay fines and court costs while complying with the terms of his supervision. A review hearing is scheduled for October 5, 2027, at 9 a.m. If McCracken successfully completes his supervision, the charge may be dismissed without a conviction being entered.
65-year-old Marvin D. Legg of Fairfield was sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections following a probation violation in a Class 3 felony methamphetamine possession case. Legg previously admitted to violating his probation during a September 10th court appearance. The petition to revoke probation was originally filed July 7th in connection with his 2024 felony case. During Thursday’s hearing, Judge Matt Vaughan imposed the six-year prison sentence, with Legg required to serve 50 percent of the term under Illinois sentencing guidelines. Legg was granted credit for 21 days previously served in custody, and the court recommended that he participate in a substance abuse treatment program while incarcerated. A separate criminal case filed against Legg in 2026 was dismissed.
53-year-old Terry E. Richardson of Fairfield was sentenced to one year of conditional discharge following a probation violation in a Class A misdemeanor domestic battery case. Richardson previously admitted to violating his probation during a September 17th court appearance. The petition to revoke probation had been filed June 9th. Richardson was ordered to serve 60 days in jail, with the sentence stayed as long as he complies with the conditions imposed by the court. He was also ordered to complete 40 hours of public service work, specifically involving the cleanup of property in the 300 block of Broadway in Fairfield. Additional conditions include paying a fine and court costs, maintaining gainful employment, and having no contact with Dorothy Brown of Fairfield. Two separate misdemeanor cases filed against Richardson in 2026 were dismissed as part of the proceedings.
