Wayne County Clerk Liz Ann Woodrow issued a statement Wednesday afternoon addressing concerns about Vote By Mail ballots. On October 3rd, the last batch of 196 ballots was mailed out. Following this, her office received numerous calls from constituents who had not received their requested ballots. Upon investigation, it was determined that these calls were related to the October 3rd mailing. After contacting the United States Postal Service on October 18th and finding no trace of the ballots, Woodrow decided at the request of the State Board of Elections to remail them on October 21st.

After the re-mailing, some residents reported receiving two ballots: one from the original mailing and one from the re-mail. Woodrow reassured the public that there would be no double voting in Wayne County, as the system in place prevents this. Many people who received two ballots returned one marked as surrendered or void.

She emphasized that the situation is not the fault of the local Post Office, which also reported similar occurrences. As of the latest update, 772 Vote By Mail ballots have been sent, with 634 received and 138 still outstanding. Woodrow encouraged anyone with questions or concerns to contact her office at 618-842-5182.
