Ten spots are still open for a very unique and rare opportunity for youth playing baseball in the Fairfield and Southern Illinois area that will happen in Fairfield next Wednesday, November 27th.  Matthew Polk from the Division 1 Vanderbilt Commodores baseball team will be conducting a one-day skills camp at Carter Athletic Academy off Williamson Drive.  The camp will feature two ages groups: 7th – 12th grade will be from 12 noon – 2pm and the cost is $50,  then 1st – 6th grade will be from 2pm – 3pm and cost is $30.   All participants should arrive 15 minutes before camp begins and will need to sign a waiver.  Bring your own bat and glove.  Assisting with the camp will be Cayden Taylor, Assistant Coach at Western Texas College who was a former Pitching Coach/Recruiting Coordinator at Olney Central College along with McGwire Taylor, Pitcher at Tennessee Wesleyan University.  Both Cayden and McGwire are brothers and former Fairfield athletes.

Matthew Polk, A Senior at Vanderbilt University and a member of the 2023 SEC Champion Commodores is from Long Beach, California and was the 13th overall prospect in California and rated as the 7th best shortstop.  Polk was drafted out of high school by a major league team, but turned down the offer to attend Vanderbilt.  This past season, he again was drafted by another MLB team but turned down that offer to finish his senior year at Vanderbilt. Seven of Polk’s teammates were drafted into the majors but Polk and another teammate, Jonathon Vastine decided to return to Vanderbilt to help try and win a National Championship.  The Commodores are expected to be ranked as one of the top ten teams in the nation this coming college baseball season.  For additional information and questions, contact Jessica Simms at 618-842-3212.  Copy and paste the below link to register for the camp.
