ILLINOIS ROLLS OUT FIRST PHASE OF PLAN TO MODERNIZE PROFESSIONAL LICENSING

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) has launched a new online licensing system this fall, marking the first phase of a broader initiative to modernize licensing and management processes for service providers statewide.

Dubbed the Comprehensive Online Regulatory Environment (CORE), the system went live on October 30th.

This milestone follows the passage of House Bill 2394 nearly a year ago, which authorized IDFPR to overhaul its outdated system, notorious for causing prolonged waiting periods for licensing and renewals.

The new CORE system is designed to streamline operations by eliminating paper applications, granting applicants more control over their materials, and reducing errors in submissions, according to an IDFPR statement.

These improvements aim to enhance efficiency and simplify the licensing process for Illinois service providers.

CORE is part of a multiphase modernization effort set to span the next two years. Once fully implemented, it will handle applications for over 300 license types and manage records for more than 1.2 million professionals.

The initial group to benefit from the new system includes clinical psychologists, music therapists, and nail technicians, paving the way for expanded use across additional professions in the near future.
