A Salem, IL man was arrested after an attempted aggravated robbery at the Holiday Inn in Salem.
Media reports say 53 year old Christopher Melton entered the hotel’s lobby this past Wednesday wearing a puffy coat and mask, and pointed what appeared to be a small firearm at the hotel clerk and gestured towards the cash register. The clerk retreated, with Melton fleeing on foot. He was later pursued by a deputy who pulled the vehicle he was driving over, and inside police found suspected drug paraphernalia. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the coat and gloves believed to have been used in the attempted robbery.
The investigation is ongoing. The report said Melton was a former employee of the hotel.
