SENATOR DICK DURBIN REINTRODUCES AMENDMENT TO ABOLISH ELECTORAL COLLEGE

Illinois U.S. Senator Dick Durbin has reintroduced a constitutional amendment aimed at eliminating the Electoral College, the current system used to elect the President of the United States. The Illinois Democrat argues that it is time to move beyond what he describes as an “18th-century invention” that disenfranchises millions of Americans. Supporters of the Electoral College contend that it prevents larger, more populated states from overshadowing smaller ones. Meanwhile, Illinois’ electors are set to officially cast their votes this morning in Springfield.

 

ILLINOIS DNR REQUESTS PUBLIC REPORTING ON AVIAN INFLUENZA

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is urging the public to help monitor for signs of avian influenza throughout the state. Recently, several dozen waterbirds were reported dead from suspected bird flu at Baldwin Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area in Randolph County. Residents are encouraged to report any instances of five or more dead birds found in one location to the State DNR promptly.

 

ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF LABOR ANNOUNCES NEW JOB POSTING REQUIREMENTS

The Illinois Department of Labor is reminding both job seekers and employers that starting January 1, 2025, all job postings by employers with 15 or more employees must include details about pay scales and benefits. In addition, employers will need to ensure transparency by informing current employees about all job openings. The public is also encouraged to report any job postings that do not comply with these new requirements to the State Department of Labor.
