A jury in Jefferson County has convicted 37-year-old Timothy Boyd of Mt. Vernon on charges of attempted murder and related offenses stemming from an October shooting that injured three individuals. After about two hours of deliberation, the jury found Boyd guilty of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm.

Boyd could face a prison sentence ranging from 31 years to life for the attempted murder charge, along with six to 30 years for the aggravated battery charges. Sentencing is set for February 20th, and the prosecution plans to seek consecutive sentences for all three convictions. Additionally, a separate charge of armed habitual criminal has been separated from this trial and will be addressed later.

The case was presented by State’s Attorney Sean Featherstun and Assistant Blake Jennings. During the investigation, Mt. Vernon police identified Boyd as a suspect in the shooting, which took place on October 12th in the 1100 block of Lamar. The three victims suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospitals in St. Louis for treatment.

Five days following the shooting, Boyd was located and arrested without incident at a hotel in Carlyle by the US Marshals Task Force, in collaboration with Mt. Vernon police detectives. A second suspect, 38-year-old Myleika Whitelow, was also apprehended at the hotel and charged with aiding and concealing a fugitive.
