The jury trial of Jason Hammock, a 41-year-old resident of Fairfield, is currently underway. Special prosecutor Lorinda Lamkin and defense attorney David Benney presented their opening arguments. Lamkin highlighted that the incidents under scrutiny took place in February 2018, with disclosure to a mandated reporter occurring on May 23, 2018.

Testifying in court were April Smith, Principal at North Side School and previously at Center Street School during the time of the incident, and Beth Richards, the school district’s social worker. It was revealed that one of the purported victims confided in Principal Smith, prompting a report to a mandated reporter situation. Subsequently, Principal Smith and Richards contacted the DCFS hotline to address the situation.  The trial continues in Wayne County Circuit Court.
