The Benton City Council has unanimously decided to allow Knox the Dalmatian to remain with the Benton Fire Department. Knox was rescued from a Jefferson County animal shelter two years ago, but the previous council had concerns about potential liability.
Fire Chief Shane Cockrum presented a management plan for Knox to the council, outlining how he will be cared for and certified. He will collaborate with Public Properties Commissioner Cathy Ann Garavalia on the details.
Cockrum expressed gratitude for the council’s decision and emphasized that Knox plays a valuable role as a facilities/fire safety animal. He invites anyone interested in meeting Knox to visit the fire station.
