The U.S. Centers For Disease Control and Prevention says Whooping cough cases in the U.S. have surged to their highest level since 2014, with over 32,000 cases reported through mid-December—an increase of six times compared to the same period last year. Pennsylvania has the highest number of cases. Pertussis, as it’s also known, is highly contagious, initially presenting with cold-like symptoms before developing into a severe cough that can persist for months. The CDC emphasizes that children under one year old are most vulnerable and recommends the D-tap vaccine for optimal protection.
