A former Wayne City resident died last Thursday in Mt. Vernon as a result from a fatal gunshot wound. 22-year-old Kolby Yanez was in a vehicle with two friends when a handgun he was handling discharged resulting in fatal injuries.
Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayes says Yanez and two friends were sitting in a car in the parking lot of the Chesterfield Village Apartment complex in Mt. Vernon near Crossroads Hospital when the accident happened. Coroner Hayes ruled the death accidental, adding the victim was mishandling the firearm when it discharged. No one else was hurt.
