By Mark Wells Jan 15, 2025 | 6:00 AM

The Fairfield City Council gathered for their first meeting of the new year last (Tuesday) night at Fairfield City Hall with a light agenda.  The council approved the previous meeting minutes and payment of bills and under Routine Business, Michelle Smith from Kemper CPA presented the 2024 audit report, noting no difficulties encountered. Key financial changes included increased cash reserves, decreased restricted cash due to debt payments, and significant capital asset investments in electric and water systems.  The council accepted the audit as reported.

The council approved two business district agreements: $2,400 for Nicole Gray and her business, Smash and Dash for facade improvements, and $6,000 for Nicole Jordan Simpson and her business,  Farmer’s Daughter Formals, LLC for interior renovations. Both projects were completed and met program requirements.

City Attorney, Darrin Rice told the council the city received the judgement they’ve been waiting for regarding the abandoned property at 908 Mt. Vernon Rd.   Mayor Gary Moore stated what he would like to see done is after raising the house, the lot cleared of debris and re-seeded. The council approved seeking bids for the demolition of the property.

Mayor Moore informed the council on the financial report showing December expenses of $1,495,721 and revenues of $1,360,436, with a year-to-date deficit of $360,281. The Mayor discussed the recent snow removal efforts and commended city crews for their hard work during the winter storms the past two weeks as the snow removing efforts will continue.
