HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE GRAYVILLE CITY COUNCIL MEETING ON MONDAY

Grayville city leaders gathered for their first meeting of 2025 on Monday evening. The agenda included several key items, including two previously approved at the last meeting of 2024, which took place on December 27th due to a technology malfunction that prevented the originally scheduled meeting on December 23rd.

During the December 27th meeting, the council approved a request from Chappy’s for a Revolving Loan Grant of up to $17,700. Following some revisions suggested by city attorney Jay Walden, the council re-voted on the request on January 13th, resulting in the same approval. However, Commissioner Browning cast a dissenting vote, although he emphasized his continued support for Chappy’s  The council also reaffirmed their decision to provide TIF I assistance to Sam’s Realty in the amount of $2,500, mirroring the approval from December 27th.

In other business, the council confirmed that Sunrise Sanitation will continue to provide trash services for the city, with a contract extending over the next five years.

The technology issues that prompted the rescheduling of the last meeting were addressed during Monday’s gathering. The proposed upgrades will cost the city just under $12,000.

Lastly, the council discussed a potential change to utility deposit requirements for new users, specifically the establishment of a standardized deposit. Currently, renters are required to pay a $150 deposit, while homeowners are not. After approximately 12 minutes of discussion, the matter was tabled for further consideration and research into how other municipalities manage utility deposit terms and pricing.
