The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued another COLD WEATHER ADVISORY in effect until 3pm this (Tuesday) afternoon for all of Southern Illinois. Dangerously cold temperatures will continue into the early afternoon. After a brief reprieve, dangerously cold temperatures will return for portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, and western Kentucky. A SECOND COLD WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect from 9pm tonight until 6am Wednesday morning. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.
Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water and keep pets indoors as much as possible.
