Robert Duane “Bob” Wheat Sr, 92, former Fairfield resident

92 year old former Fairfield resident, Robert Duane “Bob” Wheat Sr. passed away on January 20, 2025 at Hendricks County Hospital in Danville, IN.

Bob was born on August 7, 1932 in Fairfield to Jennings and Mamie (Short) Wheat. He grew up on a farm North of Fairfield in Jasper Township. Bob married LaVonne Linker on December 26, 1955 in Ft. Morgan, CO.

Bob was a Korean War veteran and was very proud of his service. He was a true animal lover and was often seen with his dogs by his side. He worked his entire career in the oil business in the Illinois Basin , DJ Basin of Colorado and Powder River Basin of Wyoming. Later in years, he attended the 1St Baptist Church when possible.

Bob is survived by 3 sons; Robert (Kelly) Wheat, Randy (Heather) Wheat and Rusty (Lisa) Wheat. A sister; Mary Alice Tetrick. Grandchildren; Logan, Morgan, Cody, Cassidy, Cady, Von and Peyton. Great Grandchildren; Jaxson, Harper, Leyton and Freya.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Graveside services for Robert “Bob” Wheat Sr. will be held, 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 27, 2025 at Maple Hill Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by Anthony Wayne Post 176, American Legion and Wayne Memorial Post 4535, VFW. Visitation for Bob will be held, 12:00

(noon) on Monday prior to the graveside at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield.
