Jefferson County Fire officials reported that a fire broke out on Sunday night at a rural home in Belle Rive but was contained to a single room.
The incident occurred at the residence of Kenny Zimmerman, located in the 2700 block of North Hamilton. Fortunately, all residents were able to evacuate safely. Zimmerman took proactive measures by using a garden hose to douse some of the flames in the utility room before firefighters arrived. The fire crew quickly extinguished the remaining flames, ensuring that the damage was limited to just one room.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Firefighters received the call at 8 PM and remained on the scene for approximately an hour and a half. Fire departments from Mt. Vernon, Bluford, Benton, and Wayne City were called in for mutual aid, while Kell and Woodlawn fire crews provided support by covering other stations.
