Joyce Elaine Major, 88, of Fairfield

Joyce Elaine Major, 88, of Fairfield, Illinois, passed away Friday, January 24, 2025 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital in the Comfort Room, surrounded by her family. She was born May 21, 1936, in Pond Creek, Illinois to Kenneth and Chloe (Mauck) Felix.

After graduating from Lockyear Business College, Joyce spent 36 years as a secretary at Airtex Products. She retired in June of 1996. After retirement, she spent her time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved attending their sporting events and parties. When she wasn’t with family, she could be found crocheting a blanket for family or friends, putting together a jigsaw puzzle or reading a good book. She was an active member of Fairfield First Baptist Church for over 75 years.

She is survived by her five children, Angela (Scott) Vaughan, Cheryl (Rick) Matthews, Lori (Randy) Taylor, Michael (Dawn) Major, Lynette Major (Brian Smothers), grandchildren, Lucas (Blair Heisner) Vaughan, Joseph Vaughan, Noah (Claire) Vaughan, Samantha (Denny) Fry, Micah (Janaye) Vaughan, Chris Matthews, Kyle (Laura) Matthews, Jason (Ali) Matthews, Ryan (Stephanie) Taylor, Eric (Hope) Taylor, Dalton (Tara) Major, Braxton Major, Ashtyn (Trevor) Hall, and Kristyn Medler. Great-grandchildren, Gracyn, Cathryn, Ellyn, Ellis Vaughan, Jaxson, Felix, and Mattox Vaughan, Raleigh Fry, Kylah, Caleb, Juliette and Abram Matthews, Ryleigh, Remington, Stetson, Finley and Evie Taylor, Clarke Major, Braelynn and Lillie Hall, and Quinn Luebbers. Her sister, Esther Tracy, her aunt, Anita Dickey, cousins, John Roy Hodges, Delores Attebery, and Norma Rushing as well as several other cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Chloe Felix.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 29, from 11am to 1pm at Fairfield First Baptist Church. Funeral Services will follow immediately, officiated by Brothers Bennie Tomberlin and David Harl. Interment will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fairfield First Baptist Church and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of all the arrangements.
