Three individuals were apprehended following a high-speed chase that spanned three counties in southern Illinois on Saturday.
The Herrin Police Department received a 911 call regarding an attempted vehicle burglary in the 1000-block of South 16th Street on January 25. Officers quickly responded and attempted to stop a vehicle they suspected was involved. During the attempt, the driver committed multiple traffic violations, prompting a high-speed pursuit.
The chase began in Herrin and extended 22 miles north on Route 148 before officers from Herrin decided to terminate the pursuit.
Shortly after, deputies in Jefferson County took over the chase and detained three males. Among them was 19-year-old Gregory Moore, who was subsequently taken to the Jefferson County Jail on charges related to the incident in Herrin as well as charges from Jefferson County.
The vehicle involved in the incident had recently been reported stolen from Cahokia, Illinois.
Assisting the Herrin Police Department in this operation were the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Zeigler and Christopher Police Departments.
