Illinois State Police and first responders handled two traffic accidents in the same general location Sunday afternoon on I-57 in Jefferson County. The first accident occurred at approximately 12:18pm on I-57 southbound at milepost 89 north of Bonnie. State Police says a Freightliner truck tractor-trailer collided with the back of a Chevrolet passenger vehicle. There were no injuries in this crash. Then just a little after 12:30, Illinois State Police responded to another report of an accident in the general area of the first crash, this one located on I-57 southbound at milepost 88 north of Bonnie. State Police say an International truck tractor semi-trailer for unknown reasons, ran off the roadway and into a ditch overturning. Air Evac was called to the scene and transported the driver to an area hospital with injuries. Partial lane blockage was reported and one lane was shut down for several hours so that the semi could be removed from the scene. Illinois State Police say their investigation into both accidents continue.
