WAYNE CITY SCHOOL BOARD OF EDUCATION HOLD FEBRUARY MEETING

The Wayne City Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting last Thursday, recognizing the achievements of several students and teams.

 

The Board acknowledged the junior high cheerleaders and boys’ basketball team for concluding successful and competitive seasons. Additionally, several students were honored for their accomplishments:

 

Tylen Burnett & Alex Barbre – School Spelling Bee winners

Caylan Piper – Participated in the ILMEA All-State Band Festival

Eowyn Smith – 2nd place in Computer Science at the ACES competition

Alayna White – 3rd place in Math at the ACES competition

Kenna Anselment – Recognized as a 2025 Service Academy Nominee

Conner Gerrish – 1st place in the Voice of Democracy audio-essay program

Lily Barbre – Named February Senior of the Month

The Board also discussed a proposal from the WWLL Board to upgrade the baseball field lighting to energy-efficient LED lights.

 

Several consent agenda items were approved, including the minutes from the January 16 meeting and the elimination of executive session minutes from August 2023. Additionally, several field trip requests received approval:

 

HS Beta Club – State Convention in Springfield, IL (March 6-7)

History Club – Louisville, KY (April 1)

FCCLA – Ronald McDonald House in Evansville, IN (May 6)

1st Grade – Children’s Museum in Evansville, IN (May 15)

7th Grade – Holiday World in Santa Claus, IN (May 22)

FFA – State Convention in Springfield, IL (June 10-12)

In personnel matters, Grace Schuster was hired as a high school science teacher, and Misty Boyd was hired as a long-term substitute teacher. The Board also approved the calendar for the 2025-2026 school year.

 

The next regular Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 20, at 6:00 PM in the administrative conference room.
