Flora police report the arrest of a Flora resident earlier this week following an investigation of a complaint of an individual harassing minors by electronic means.
Reports out of Clay County indicated the investigation began on December 28th of last year, and during the investigation, a deputy was able to also investigate possible violations of the Illinois Sex Offender Registration Act. That investigation was turned over to Clay County State’s Attorney Phillip Givens for consideration of charges,and on February 24th State’s Attorney Givens obtained an arrest warrant relating to the investigation.
Shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday Flora police observed 43-year-old Michael W. Persinger of Flora, who had several Clay County warrants, on foot in the 500 block of Main Street in Flora. The report said as officers attempted to track him down, Persinger fled on foot for a couple of blocks until he was apprehended by police and taken to the Flora Police Department.
Persinger was later taken to the Clay County Jail, where he was being held without bond on two Clay County warrants for Unlawful Failure of Sex Offender to Notify Change of Address, and a Contempt Warning relating to the previous offenses.
