WIND ADVISORY & RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FOR SOUTHERN ILLINOIS WEDNESDAY

By Mark Wells Mar 19, 2025 | 5:59 AM

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a WIND ADVISORY in effect from 8am to 7pm for portions of Southern Illinois.  South winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected with the potential for isolated higher gusts.  Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.  Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

Also a RED FLAG WARNING is in effect from 11am to 8pm.  A combination of strong southwest winds, low relative humidity, and dry vegetation will result in a fire danger, especially during the afternoon hours.  Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.  Outdoor burning is NOT recommended.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now….or will shortly. A combination of strong winds…low relative humidity…and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
