FLOOD WARNING STILL IN EFFECT, THUNDERSTORMS IN THE FORECAST FOR TODAY (THURSDAY)

The National Weather Service in Paducah says significant flooding continues across portions of the region with moderate to major flooding will continue on many area rivers for the next several days.  Thunderstorms return to the forecast today (Thursday) and there is a slight risk of a few severe storms. Large hail will be the main threat, with more isolated damaging wind potential.

 

The FLOOD WARNING continues for the Little Wabash River at Carmi with major, near record, flooding continuing.   The river will have a prolonged crest at 36.9 feet Friday, then a slow fall will begin Saturday. As of 12:30 this morning according to the U.S Geological Survey, the river was at 36.74 feet, again flood stage is at 27 ft. Little Wabash east of Fairfield stands at 29.69 feet  (flood stage is at 17 ft.) .  The Skillet Fork at Wayne City has a reading of 9.11 feet, (flood stage is 15 ft).  The Little Wabash below Clay City is at 21.72 feet.  (flood stage is at 18 ft.)   The Wabash  River at Mt. Carmel is at 28.82 feet, (flood stage is at 19 ft.). The Bonpas Creek at Browns is at 20.71 feet.  Ohio River at Old Shawneetown IL-KY State line is 47.76 feet, (flood stage is at 33 ft.).
