JOHNSTON CITY HIRES COACHES
After seeing their head football coach and head basketball coach step down on the same day, Johnston City High School has filled those vacancies with coaches who are enthusiastic and eager to get going.
The Indians football program will now be entrusted in the hands of former JCHS athlete, Marshall Mummert. He has 16 years experience on the Indians’ staff, and also spent three years at West Frankfort. Mummert has coached both the offensive and defensive lines, and has also served as an offensive coordinator. He is also a teacher on the staff.
The Johnston City basketball program will now be led by Quinton Smothers, who comes over from Herrin, where he has coached along side Head Coach Sayler Shurtz as the Tigers JV coach. Smothers has been in the Herrin school district for 13 years.
Smothers brings with him another coach from Herrin to be his assistant. That is Hayden Holloway, who has been on the Tigers staff for 4 years.
