Four female students are dead after a vehicle crashed into an after school camp in Chatham. Illinois State police say the incident happened yesterday at YNOT After School Camp on Breckenridge Road, where a vehicle drove into the east side of the building. The vehicle hit multiple people outside of the building before continuing through the building. The vehicle then hit multiple people inside before exiting through the west wall of the building. The four students who died range in age from 4 to 18 years old. Several other people were sent to the hospital. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured, but transported to an area hospital for evaluation.
Governor JB Pritzker is defending his fiery speech in New Hampshire over the weekend. In response to Republicans who accused him of inciting violence, Pritzker said he was calling for people to take out their megaphones and get to the ballot box. During his speech Sunday night, the governor called “for mass protests, for mobilization, for disruption” against the Trump administration. Illinois Republican Party chair Kathy Salvi called his speech “inflammatory and dangerous.”
US Senator Tammy Duckworth is backing Illinois Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton in her bid to replace retiring U.S. Senator Dick Durbin. The Hoffman Estates Democrat announced her endorsement for Stratton, calling her an effective Lieutenant Governor that cares for working people. Stratton announced her Senate run last week, a day after Durbin said he wouldn’t seek a sixth term. Governor Pritzker has already endorsed her candidacy.
