The West Salem Village Trustees voted 5-1 Monday night to not cancel the lease contract for the local senior center building and to not offer any financial aid at this time, as requested by the Edwards County Council on Aging at last month’s board meeting. Trustee Chris Ray was the only dissenting vote.
The ECCOA had claimed a $10,000 a month deficit for the past year at various meetings over the past month but provided limited or redacted information to support their claim. Some information presented seemed to be contradictory.
A representative of ECCOA was not present at Monday night’s meeting but recently sent an email to West Salem Village Mayor Jeff Bradham informing him that they plan to continue operating the village senior center without changes.
The building contract for use of the village-owned property with ECCOA ends sometime in the summer of 2026.
