Carmi-White County Community Unit School District #5 has announced that classes are cancelled today (Tuesday) following a potential threat reported overnight.
According to Superintendent reports, the district was alerted via the Illinois Safe2Help tip line about a possible act of violence targeting Carmi Schools. The tip referenced an anonymous Snapchat post, which officials say was nonspecific in nature.
Local law enforcement is actively investigating the situation. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to contact the Carmi Police Department.
At this time, it remains unclear how this will affect tonight’s graduation ceremony. School officials stated they will continue to provide updates and event information as they coordinate with law enforcement to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the community.
