3.3 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE SHAKES AREA NEAR LERNA MONDAY NIGHT

A 3.3 magnitude earthquake struck near Lerna late Monday night, briefly shaking the surrounding region. The quake occurred at approximately 11:45 PM and was recorded at a depth of about 9.8 kilometers, according to initial seismic data.

 

No injuries or significant damage were reported.

 

Residents in nearby communities such as Neoga, Mattoon, Charleston, and even Effingham may have felt light tremors from the earthquake. While earthquakes of this magnitude are typically considered minor, they can still be felt depending on depth and proximity to population centers.
