The Village of Enfield is looking to hire for several open positions following a packed two-hour board meeting held Tuesday night, which also included the swearing in of both new and returning officials.

Longtime Village Clerk Debby Stone, who is stepping down after 29 years of service, administered the Oath of Office to Mayor Maurie Black, newly elected Clerk Kayla Weaver, returning Treasurer Angela Carter, and incoming Village Trustees Shelby Carter Delap and Amy Arvin. Trustee-elect Stephen Griffin declined to serve due to age and health concerns. The board plans to name a replacement, potentially by next month’s meeting.

The Village is actively seeking applicants for several open roles:

Full-time Police Officer

Animal Control Officer

Janitorial Worker for the Enfield Community Center

Utility Worker

Interested applicants are encouraged to contact the village office directly.

The board voiced continued frustration with Ameren regarding unresolved street lighting issues and is now considering doing the work themselves. The Village is also asking for pole donations for Christmas lighting—16 poles are currently available. Trustees Jim Bolin and Amy Arvin will oversee a committee to determine proper measurements. An official notice will be posted to the village’s Facebook page.

A sewer survey is underway to assess the feasibility of improvements between the Village Hall and Highway 14. Once complete, the project may qualify for a grant.

Additionally, the new truck the village previously ordered is expected to arrive by June, and officials are continuing to seek estimates for Community Center repairs.

The board received one bid for the 20-acre parcel behind the park. Trustees voted to present a counteroffer, allowing the village to retain mineral rights.

Trustees also addressed the issue of property maintenance. A list of properties requiring cleanup will be compiled, with letters to be sent to owners. The village retains the right to shut off utilities if compliance is not met.

The town-wide rummage sale is set for Saturday, May 17.

The town-wide cleanup day is scheduled for Saturday, May 31.

The Enfield Community Center still has indoor and outdoor spaces available for rent. For more information, call Debra at 618-384-6060.

Janice Crow of Birth to Five Illinois spoke to the board about early childhood services available in the region. The organization covers nine counties and has been meeting with local governments to raise awareness.

The board approved several financial measures:

$330,000 for a sewer planning survey under the IEPA Unsewered Communities Grant
