Sweet treats, classic cars, and community fun will all be part of the seventh annual Jefferson County Strawberry Festival, Plant Sale, and Cruise-In on Saturday, May 24th from 10am to 3pm. at the Jefferson County Historical Village.

Organized by the Jefferson County Historical Society, the event promises a wide variety of attractions for all ages. Fresh strawberry shortcake, pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, and chili dogs will headline the food menu, while other vendors offer kettle corn, caramel candy, freeze-dried fruit, candy, and local honey.

Festivalgoers will also enjoy a large plant sale featuring gardening items and landscape décor at bargain prices. Strawberries will be available for purchase, depending on supply. Handcrafted items such as Anna’s Crochet and Steve Stern’s iron art will be available as well.

Children are in for a treat with free books at the schoolhouse, fun games, and a visit from the Mobile Cat Café, featuring cats ready for cuddles.

The Cruise-In, open to all, will take place near the red barn behind the village. Those interested in participating can contact Brian Burwell at 618-246-6622. Entry is by donation.

“This will be a fun family event,” said Dana Uhls, Community Relations Specialist for JCHS. “The strawberry desserts are the star, and every year we sell out. All the buildings and cabins will be open for tours.”

The event is sponsored by Mt. Vernon Tourism with support from Farm Credit Illinois (Mark Kabat) and Costa Law Office P.C.
