Michael (Scott) McDannel passed away at the age of 54 on May 11, 2025, at his home in Bristol, VA.
Scott was born on December 7, 1970, in Jacksonville, FL to Mike McDannel and Diana (Mitchell) Vaughan. He attended Fairfield Community High School and played on the Mules football team. Scott was an avid fisherman, and he loved to tell a good story. He loved his family deeply and was a friend to everyone.
Scott is survived by his mother, son Jacob DeJarnatt (Cheyenne) of Fairfield, daughters Josie (Kelsey) Wingfield of Owensboro, KY and Matti McDannel of Herrin, grandson Graham Wingfield of Owensboro, KY. Three sisters, Staci McDannel of St Joe, Nikki (Jeremy) Carter and Holli (Heath) Belva of Fairfield. One brother, Adam (Melanie) Vaughan of Fairfield, a very special aunt and uncle, Sharon and Darrell Bryan of Champaign, grandparents Hazel Mitchell and Noel and Reta Vaughan as well as several nieces and nephews. A lifelong partner, Melissa Wampler and family from Bristol, TN also survive. He is preceded in death by his father, grandparents Tom and Betty McDannel, Rod and Peggy Clevenger, Bob Mitchell, and brother Ryan Vaughan.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Bestow Cemetery in Geff, Illinois. Family and friends are welcome to attend to honor and celebrate Scott’s life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Scott’s only grandchild, Graham Wingfield’s custodial account. They will be accepted at Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home or Conard Financial Group.
