Rebecca (Given) Wilson, 87 of Charlottesville, Virginia passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024. She was born on Monday, October 18, 1937, a daughter of Harry and Nancy (Higginson) Given. Rebecca married Charles Wilson in Carmi, Illinois on October 25, 1956, and together they shared over 68 years of marriage.
Rebecca was community minded and very involved in a variety of civic organizations. She served as Vice Regent of the Spirit of ’76 National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and Regent of the Jack Jouett National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a past Grand Worthy Matron of the Eastern Stars of Louisiana.
Rebecca earned two Master’s Degrees from Nicholls State University, her first in Library Science and the second in Education. She worked as a librarian at H.L. Bourgeois High School in Grey, Louisiana and she opened the library for Kingwood High School in Kingwood, Texas. Rebecca was one of the first salespeople hired by Follette Books for their new library automation. She worked as a salesperson, sales manager, regional sales manager and retired as Vice President of Sales. After retirement she spent time with her family, especially her much loved grandson Jacob and enjoyed reading and volunteering at University of Virginia Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Wilson; daughter Rebecca Rusina; grandson and his wife Jacob and Denia (Sherwood) Rusina; great grandchildren, Jameson Charles and Elaina Lucy; nephews, Kerry Given, Todd Given, Kevin and Eileen Williams; niece, Nancy and Ray Mitchell; great-nieces, Paige, Katie and Carli and numerous beloved cousins.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Harry Richard Given, William Wayne Given and his wife Virginia “Ginny” (Bryan) Given, Dorothy (Given) Williams and her husband Robert J. “Pud” Williams and nephews Dr. Michael Given and Patrick Given.
A service celebrating Rebecca’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, 2025, in the chapel at Roberts and Cook Funeral Service, 108 West Main Street, Crossville, Illinois with her family officiating. Family and friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Roberts and Cook Funeral Service has been entrusted with the arrangements
