By Mark Wells May 21, 2025 | 5:58 AM

A local summer meal initiative is returning to help ensure children across Wayne County have access to nutritious food while school is out. The “Feeding Kids of Wayne County” program will offer free sack lunches and grocery sacks for children ages 2 to 18, beginning May 26th and continuing through August 8th.

Sack lunches will be served Monday through Friday from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. at three locations in Fairfield:

Manor of the Woodlands, Manor Circle

Lakeside Park (west side shelter), NW 7th Street

Jesus Name Pentecostal Church, 1112 SW 6th Street

In addition to daily lunches, sacks of groceries will be distributed every Monday from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the following sites:

Wayne City Park, West Shreve Street

Cisne Park, Cisne Square

Geff Grade School (west side), 201 Lafayette Street

The program is completely free and open to all children in the age range, with no registration required. It’s organized to combat food insecurity among local youth during the summer months when school meal programs are not available.

Families in Wayne County are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to support their children’s nutrition and well-being.
