NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICES DOING UPDATES

By Mark Wells Jun 4, 2025 | 6:04 AM

The National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky, has announced that they will be going offline for software upgrades.

The office will be conducting a required, scheduled update to their Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System. The update is scheduled to begin around 8 a.m. on Monday, June 9th, and last through June 11th. During the process, all NOAA weather radio transmitters maintained by the office will go silent.

Officials say forecast and warning operations will be conducted by backup offices in Davenport, Iowa, and Louisville, Kentucky. All radars in the Paducah system will remain operational, and the office will remain open and staffed during the upgrade.

The National Weather Service in Lincoln, Illinois is also performing required, scheduled updates to its Advanced Weather Information Processing System.  Their update began Tuesday around 7 a.m. and will continue through the afternoon on Thursday June 5th.

The National Weather Service uses its Advanced Weather Processing System to display and integrate weather and water information, and to send life-saving information, such as weather and water warnings to the public.

In the event of severe weather, it will be important to have alternate ways to receive warning information. A number of nearby NOAA Weather Radio stations provide some coverage, and smartphone apps that are configured to receive warning products will continue to do so
