By Mark Wells Jun 16, 2025 | 11:58 AM

The official start of summer arrives this Friday, and with it comes the hottest temperatures of the season so far, according to the National Weather Service in Paducah.

High temperatures on Saturday and Sunday are forecast to reach the lower to middle 90s, with heat index values between 100 and 105 degrees. These conditions are approaching Heat Advisory criteria and pose an elevated risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions.

Before the heat arrives, strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop late Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night as a cold front approaches the region. Forecasters warn of damaging wind gusts, large hail, and the potential for a few tornadoes as the main threats.

Residents are urged to stay weather aware this week, take precautions to stay cool and hydrated over the weekend, and prepare for possible severe weather midweek.
