Vernon Joseph Van Norman, 82 of McLeansboro, IL went to be with the Lord on June 15, 2025 at home. He was born on April 29, 1943 in Portland, Oregon. On October 20, 1962 he married Delores Bradley and they shared over 62 ½ years of marriage.
“Van” lived a life that was directed by God and he touched so many lives over the years. He was a retiree from the Chicago Ford Motor Assembly Plant after 35 years where he worked every part of the line and finished in the carpenter shop. He assisted churches with building projects as he followed the way of the carpenter. He was a member of Lick Creek Church.
Survivors include, his wife, Delores and their two daughters, Karyn (David) Dykstra of McLeansboro, IL and Laura Dunkman of Frankfort, IL; four grandchildren Katelyn (Chad) Mendenhall, Henry John Dykstra, Elizabeth (Alex) Barrett, and Benjamin Richard Dunkman; and one great grandson Gabriel Troy Barrett, one sister, Helen Grapenthine and many nieces and nephews.
He leaves behind a legacy of faith and a passion for sharing his love of Jesus.
Celebration of Life Service will be Thursday, June 19, 2025 at 4:00 P.M. at Ten Mile Baptist Church in McLeansboro, IL. with Pastor Ken Cook officiating. The church doors will open at 3:30 P.M. on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers the family requests guests bring an item that Van made or gave that is special to them to display during the visitation and will be returned to them.
