Debra Lynn Smithpeters, 70, of Carmi, Illinois, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Silver Foxes Senior Living and Rehabilitation in McLeansboro, with her husband at her side. She was born on Thursday, February 16, 1955, in Eldorado, Illinois, a daughter of Holly and Florence (Mead) Musgrave. On March 13, 1987, in Henderson, Kentucky, Debbie married Mark Russell Smithpeters, and together they shared more than 38 years of marriage.
A registered nurse for over 35 years, Debbie began her career at Carmi Hospital and later retired from Deaconess Heart Group. Her gentle skill, steady compassion, and dedication to her patients touched many lives.
Survivors include her husband, Mark Smithpeters of Carmi; her siblings, Bud Musgrave, Linda Thompson, and Vicki Karcher; and a wide circle of extended family and dear friends who will miss her warmth and kindness.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Holly and Florence Musgrave, and brothers-in-law Eddie Thompson and Gary Karcher.
A service celebrating Debbie’s life will be held at a later date.
