Forecasters at the National Weather Service Office in Paducah are warning of an extended heat wave set to impact the region beginning Saturday and continuing through at least Wednesday.
According to the latest projections, daily peak heat index values will range from 100 to 107 degrees, with actual air temperatures in the lower to mid-90s throughout the duration of the event.
While no official Heat Advisory has been issued yet, meteorologists say the likelihood of one being needed is high in the coming days as conditions worsen.
Officials are urging residents to take the threat seriously. Heat is the leading cause of weather-related deaths most years, often exceeding fatalities from flooding, tornadoes, or hurricanes.
Safety Tips During Extreme Heat:
Limit outdoor activities, especially during the hottest parts of the day.
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
Check on elderly neighbors, children, and those without air conditioning.
Never leave pets or people in vehicles, even for a short time.
